Murwillumbah Golf Club

Far North Coast, NSW | User Rating: Rate-4 (4.0) | Add A Review

Murwillumbah golf course is arguably one of the finest in Australia. Close to Mt Warning National Park, the towering mountain peak is ever-present as you traverse the spectacular layout. The natural beauty and serenity of the course has to be experienced to be believed and no keen golfer should miss the opportunity to play here.

The Club’s signature hole, known as the Pump House, is the par 5, 522 metre 14th that doglegs left. An accurate drive between the trees, fading to the right half of the fairway followed by a three-wood second up to the left and finally a solid short iron the flag is the ideal way to attack this beauty.

Other holes carry such unforgettable names as the Bull Paddock, Hatton’s Bluff, Lion’s Lair and the Duckpond.

Nice Course. One of the best country courses I’ve played…..

We paid $41 each for 2 players with a cart…. on a hot day you definitely need it out there.

Nice scenic holes and good distances make for a reasonable challenge without having to take a sack of balls

A must play course for high and low handicapers. Stunning scenary with fantastic views from every T. Each hole has a name which describes the hole to a T perfectly. Flat T’s, great fairways, good greens, challenging layout and the COST! makes this place a hidden jewel for anyone wanting to make the trip from the high cost courses on the Gold Coast. Great Club House well stocked pro shop and friendly staff adds up to total enjoyment.

A great course to visit and play, spectacular scenery surrounds a well maintained venue where greens and fairways are always 1st class.

What a gem. When you think country Australian courses you usually think about broad leaf grass fairways, average greens and a few haphazard hazards. Not at this course though. This course wouldn’t be out of place 30 minutes to the north-east on the Gold Coast. First indications of the quality of the course are the views of the 9th, 10th and first whilst on the putting green and waiting to hit off, and how true and quickly the practice green runs. The views from the clubhouse take in the predominant cane fields of the region, as well Mt Warning and the Springbrook Ranges.

The first is a slight dog-leg right with prominent fairway bunkers on the direct line from tee to green. The safer line is to the left of these bunkers, but over there lurks some water. The smart play is probably to take a hybrid or long iron off the tee and stay short of the bunkers as it’s not a long hole. This sort of thought and strategy is required on most of the remaining 17 holes and is the basis of a challenging, well maintained and enjoyable golf course. Green fees were $30 for a midday tee time on Sunday which is fine for a course of this quality.

My favourite holes were the first; the 352m par 4 8th which curves around a lake/river on it’s left side all the way to the green (I think Q-Tip has mistakenly called this the 9th in his review); the short but difficult par 3 10th; the sloping and long par 4 16th which is index one on the card; and the short but curving and sloping par 4 18th. Actually, just thinking back to the round makes me realise I want to play this course again, and that’s got to be a good sign.

Great course, great value.

Measures from social mens markers 5879m Par 71 with 4 Par 3s ranging from 125-160m, 11 Par 4s ranging from 310-390m and three Par 5s ranging from 450-505m. I was most impressed that the town can have such a well maintained course Iím used to seeing in Sydney. Fairways and teebeds were smooth and consistently green, and the greens were very good.

The front nine is flatter and offers more water hazards than the back nine, which is more hilly with doglegs. All fairways are tree-lined both sides to keep your round honest, and the bunkers are in superb condition. The clubhouse though is old and needs a redevelopment. Nice drive from the beaches, so if in the area and have a spare 3 hours give it a go.

Signature holes: 345m Par 4 1st with water left and bunkers right and sand left and water right around the green. 350m Par 4 9th with Rous River on the left all the way the green which is tucked in on the left. 382m Par 4 16th severely slopes to the left, anything remotely left on the fairway rolls down near the tall pine trees, green is two tiered with bunker on the left.

Played here on weekend 19/2/06 and paid $7 green fees for 18 holes after 3pm (ESDT) and $20 electric cart. Excellent value for a course that feels like resort course, but set in the country without the Gold Coast green fees. Most underrated course in the region for sureÖ

this is defiantely one of my favourite golf course that i have played on. a hilly course that has very challenging greens to offer that can easily undo a good game. not one green is flat. always looks pretty with fast rolling greens. can play long when played off the plates. signature hole would hav to be the 14th. a difficult par 5 that is well bunkered and has water to the right of the green. a massive tear splits the green in 2. the fairway dips away to the right making it hard to find the fairway as there is big bunker on the left that you have to steer away from off the drive. very nice golf course and is definately worth playing if you can find it

This course is a hidden treasure. It has fast well kept greens and the fairways are in great nick.

While the cost may be small don't expect an easy round of golf, at just over 6100 you couldn't say it was short, it is well bunkered and while the green size is generous they are tricky to navigate.

Like all great course the land it has been built on makes the course great, it has a perfect combination of hills and flat.

For those who are sick of being ripped by golf courses this course is gem. In terms of value for money for me it is 12 out of 10.

This is a challenging, scenic course, spread out within a valley and surrounded by gorgeous mountains, It can get up to 10 degrees hotter here so bring your water.

Some undulating fairways, in particular the 17th hole make for a challenging afternoon.

I thoroughly recommend playing here and for $17 for 18 holes it was an absolute bargain! Just goes to show how much we get ripped off in Sydney for courses that aren't true 'golf courses' but chip and putt if you know what mean.

This is a true test and well worth playing.
