At all times of the year the towering gums and tree ferns which line the fairways, and the ever present songs from the hundreds of bell birds, make for a wonderful golfing experience.

For Spring visitors the vibrance of the season is reflected in the splashes of colour from Camellias and Rhododendrons, whilst an Autumn visit rewards golfers with splendid visions of unforgettable leaf colours, toned by the crisp, clear morning air.

reviewing the hills course, very good challenging layout which i enjoy playing. If your not fit then id recomend getting a cart, fairly up and down but getting past that the course is in great condition from tee to green. located out in the sticks abit so makes it hard to get too but if willing to travel there u should get your golfing worths.

Well… what can i say. I played there on Sunday and was impressed by the scenery but far from impressed by the course.

We played the Derwent (Spelling?) course and talk about goat track. It had more rolls then a 45yo comic book enthusiast. I dont think there is a flat hole on the entire course, however, i do hear that the other configuration has a more forgiving back nine.

Definately wished we had booked a cart to go around, probably would have been able to enjoy it a little more.

It was definately a little more difficult with the constant change in elevation causing you to rethink your club choice. The greens were fantastic as were the bunkers, although i managed to avoid them thankfully.

Another issue i found with the course was that unless you have played there you have no idea where half the holes go. Some have dog legs which you cannot tell if they are left or right, ie. I believe its the 7th or 8th hole which looks like it goes off slightly to the left but actually goes behind a large amount of trees to the right.

Flies… millions of flies… i think maybe because of the water/lakes/ponds and copious amounts of bird droppings. They seem to be smarter then the average fly also. It’s almost like as soon as both your hands touch your club they know you cannot swat them and swarm your face, back, arms and chest.

All in all i cannot say i will be back there in a hurry, it is a lovely course to view, but playing it just was not for me.

PROS

  • Lovely Greens, Nice Fairways, Great Scenery, Well kept bunkers

Cons

  • Goat Track, Lack of Signage, Distance from the Green to the next Tee, Copious amounts of flies

Played after a bit of rain. We played off the white markers which were about 1-2 metres in front of the blue. We had a few doubts about the 135 metre markers as we all had to take extra clubs. First time we played it and due to lack of signage we had no idea where to go. In pretty good nick although the greens a little 2 paced. (Ran with a chip but putted slow).

Views are good and the clubhouse is great for a much needed beer (or 4). For high handicappers any par is a bonus. The hills make it longer and my 44 year old legs really felt it the next day. $30.00 for a round is a little steep. Bunkers being wet made it tough and they need a tad more sand. Corse plays pretty quick for a hilly course and it's well worth a visit.

Whilst the Lakes course is a nice cruise that lacks length (too many short P4's for the longer hitter) the hills is great. Length off the tee will help however accuracy is a priority here for both tee and fairway shots.

I play BHGC 2-3 times a year and generaly is in good condition (both courses).

Great bush setting close to Melbourne and reasonably priced. One of the better pro shops too.
