I played this goat track last weekend (24-8-08) and was very unimpressed. I asked the guy in the pro-shop if the course was in good condition and he said yes except maybe 1 or 2 holes were a bit iffy. Pfft, what a joke! Every single fairway was dead and very very soggy. The goat track is not worth the drive or the $30 and i cant see it getting any better in the next 6 months
If it wasnt for the condition this would be a fabulous course.

played there last Sunday very nice course I loved the all the par 5 holes all have come up well after the rest they had probably one of the best courses I have played only a short drive from Melbourne’s western suburbs. I have three favourite courses now Growling Frog, Goonawarra and now Gisborne.

Played this course for the first time yesterday, very impressed with how good a nick the course is in considering the current conditions in victoria. Tee’d off at dawn and had the place to ourselves, i couldnt believe how quite it was. The fairways are wide and forgiving on most holes and the greens play fairly quick. some very chalenging short par 4’s and some picturesque par 3’s made playing this course extremely enjoyable.

Possibly the best course outside metro Melbourne. Played yesterday for the first time in about 7 years. Great fairways & greens, new bunkers surronded by natural grasses. Worth the extra time in the car, play mid week and you will not find a more peaceful place to have a hit.

This course has got to be one of the finest country courses in Victoria. What astounded me was the varied holes provided throughout the 18. There is a perfect balance of water holes, long par 4's and short par 3's surrounded by bunkers. Hitting the green in 1 is a must on the 16th! When I played this course the first time, I could not believe how quiet it was and how good the fairways were. A must for any golfer looking for a good challenge.

Great course but a bit tough for the high handicapper.
I played this course recently on a Saturday arvo after the members' comp had finished and pretty much seemed like we had the place all to ourselves. Playing partner didn't particularly enjoy the course as she despises the fact that ducks and kangaroos defecate around the grounds, however, the course is kept in exceptional nick and makes for a lovely round of golf. If this course was on the Sandbelt, it would cost thousands of dollars to join and a couple for the subs.

I have played Gisborne many times since my review back in September 2003 and am pleased to write this course would have to be one of the most improved courses in Victoria, if not Australia. It was good before however since most of the fairways have been converted to Santa Anna (there are still a few to be done however they are still perfect) the quality of this layout has become first rate ! New bunkering in the mould of the famous Scottish pot bunkers has been added on most holes and the greens are as quick as any you will putt on (including the famous "Sandbelt"). Once the reconstruction has been fully completed I am sure you will be hearing a lot more of Gisborne in rankings lists of Australia's top 100.

One of my favourite ways to rate a course is by how many different shots are required to be hit.
Gisborne is one course where you will most likely need every club available to you. Hit a nice drive on the 1st Par 4 and you won't have much more than a short shot into the green. Hit the same type of drive into the Par 4 10th and it's very likely you'll need a mid-long iron. On the Par 4 8th which dog legs left, unless you can work your ball through the air, most will need to hit an iron off the tee rather than just belting a drive as far as you can.
It is currently undergoing major works while the fairways are oversowed but even so the management have had the foresight to build proper temporary greens rather than just try and mow the fairway really low.
Although it can get very wet through the winter, the course is usually in very good condition and the greens are ace.
One of my favourites.

Gisborne is a course I have played a number of times over the past 10 years. It is a course that seems to play longer than it's yardage due to a number of uphill holes. It has tree lined fairways with water coming into play on 6 of the 18 holes. I have been particularly impressed with the greens, which are true and fast. Gisborne is currently converting it's fairways to Santa Anna couch, which will only add to it's reputation.

After 5 years of playing this lovely course, I have found it to be one of the best in Victoria. Excellent layout, fast greens and lots of thinking shots to play. Make sure you prepare yourself for the "over the water" 16th, and the new sand traps on the 18th. Always a catch for the faded drive.

Well after playing Gisborne yet again today, all I can say is, brilliant. After a rather wet winter, the course has come back with avengance. Tee_n_up ’s comments as to a dead track obivously means he’s never played a winter course before. Yes there were some wet holes, which simply meant you had to carry the ball, rather than rely on some lucky run across the ground. Try to play here now, and see just how tight the greens are, and just how great the fairways have come up. To compare !!! I played the Heritage yesterday and this course here is just as good. (no really I mean it). Do yourself a favour (as Molly would say) and take the drive and play. This course is very much a “must play” course.
