Woodend is a grate course out of the 18 holes I could only fault one hole the first par 3 on the front nine. After playing this course you will feel like Sir Edman Hillary because of the very hilly lay out. One more thing check the weather before you play in might be nice and sunny where you are but the weather changes fast in the ranges.

woodend is always in good condition because of recyled water. I always enjoy the course. It is a very very short and easy course but also has some challanges.

Woodend is a short but tuff golf course. The greens are very slopy and are a bit slow, but an enjoyable course. Some tite farways can be hard for diriving with a fair bit of rough.

Woodend is a short course with a few steap hills. It has 6 par 3’s both nines having 3 each then the rest of the course is par 4’s there are no par 5’s but it is a challenging course

As a professional golfer, I frequently play practice rounds at Woodend. Yes it’s true, midweek golf at Woodend is the best kept secret I have ever seen. I am so often all alone on a lush green golf course, an amazing thing in the drought conditions currently in Victoria. The reason I choose to play a lot of practice rounds at Woodend is purely due to the course layout. The course is a great test of your all round game. There are enough tee shots where you can pull out the driver, but then several holes on which course management is far more important with a lay up from the tee.

Woodend is an exceptional test of all iron shots as well. A round at Wooodend will force you to play off every sloping lie possible, adding to the chalenge of the regular short iron shots. While the course does lack a few long, challenging holes, there are plenty of long approaches required on the par 3’s, such as the uphill 5th, which is an extremely difficult hole, and the long par 3 15th hole at the far end of the course.

Woodend has perfected the short, strategic par 4 hole. The 6th is less than 300 metres, yet is always a challenge to par due to the steep undulations and smart placement of trees. The par 4 13th hole, which I as a professional can reach with a 3 iron, is very short yet a genius par 4. The severe undulations and severely sloping green can cause many problems on a hole that seems very simple.

This is not even mentioning the “famous” signature hole, the par 3 11th. With the green set a long way below the tee down the far end of the big hill, I generally hit an 8 iron that seems to hang in the air forever until it hits the green many many metres below. A hole with no hazards has never been such a challenge simply due to the difficulty of judgement of distance.

Basically, Woodend is a golf course that is a great test to any golfers game. While long drives are not hugely important, you can still score well without them. It will test out every club in your bag, and a par round will truly be earnt. Go and enjoy a quiet round at Woodend while you still can.

The woodend golf course is an awesome course for all there is 6 par 3's 3 on each 9. The course is missing a long par 5 so for most its a drive and a wedge to the green. The old clubhouse is great a great traditional look. The most famous hole on the course would be th 11th it's a 168 metre hole but from the tee off to the green is 38 metre down. The 16th is the opposite its a par 4 that goes back up the hill. I enjoyed the course it is really worth playing

Driving through the front gate here is like stepping back in time. The old clubhouse overlooks the first hole and is hidden by dense bushland. It reeks of an era long gone and instantly spells out how your round is going to play out. The greens are suprisingly good, flat and tricky but they roll well and hold pretty true. The beauty of this course is its small charms. It is not long but there are some magic little holes and the par 3's are a delight. You can really feel the course was created by people who love the game and is played on by those who think likewise. The first 5 holes are a great mismatch of a different form of golf, if you love playing par 3's and being challenged to hit the right part of the green or hit the right slope you will love this place. There are some really interesting holes which will certainly make you think; hit long for your second on the straight uphill 16th and you are likely to find your ball back at your feet! But whatever charms you may find on the other 17th holes, this course is worth playing simply for the 11th. Probably one of the most amazing par 3s in this country. It's beauty is in its simplicity. The tee is positioned on the end of a severe cliff and the small target green looks a million miles away. Nevertheless with a trusty short iron in your hands you can watch your ball sail in the horizon, hang for what seems forever, and the then drop vertical (hopefully) somewhere near the hole. I dare to suggest playing this hole never gets old. The feel of the 11th works wonderfully with the rest of the other eccentric 17 holes.

All in all, Woodend is the type of place where golfing pretensions are left behind, where you simply enjoy getting the ball into the hole and take in all that nature has to offer.

If I can offer any advise it would to try and play this place midweek, if you're lucky you'll have the course to yourself & you'll be in for a magic little experience.

Woodend is a hilly short course with lovely views of Mount Macedon. It has one of the most amazing par 3s in Australia. At 164m the 11th is hit from an elevated tee to a green that is 38m approx below. After some lovely holes you come to the 16th that rises up the same hill in it's last 100m. A motorised rope pull is then used to pull you up to the 17th. You must have your short irons working to play this course as some greens lie on tricky slopes. A long par 5 is absent because of lack of land. This would be an asset with so many short holes.
