Twin Waters Golf Resort

Sunshine Coast, QLD | User Rating: Rate-4 (4.0) | Add A Review

Twin Waters Resort Golf Course is a challenging world class 18 hole course designed by the five times British Open Champion Peter Thompson. The British influence is especially evident with the many pot bunkers that are sprinkled around in the best links tradition. The pot bunker beside the 8th green resembles the famous St Andrews Road Hole bunker.

The course design takes full advantage of the natural bushland setting and features rolling generous fairways with many grass covered mounds and hollows. The course’s reputation arguably places it as one of the best courses in the country. Peter Thompson believes that both golfing purists and amateurs alike will enjoy the challenge the course presents, with most players only using the one ball throughout their round. It is a flexible course, testing the boldest professional, the club player and the casual golfer by alteration of tee and pin placements, coupled with strategic positioning of bunkers and the natural vegetation.

This was my first time playing at Twin Waters. First impressions mean a lot to me. If you have a great course you must back it up with great management, staff, facilities and club houses. Twin waters did not disappoint in any of these areas. Staff at Twin Waters (including green keepers) were all curtious, friendly and thoughtful. The club house and facilities were all of a great standard and what you would expect of a great resort style championship course. The whole course was in great condition, it was quite challenging and well designed with wonderful scenery to take in between shots. On almost every hole there were green keepers attending to something and it was great to see how they took pride in their course. The near-by Maroochydore airport had aircraft coming in low over the course. This was not a big distraction, it was great to watch them and take your mind off things for just a few moments. I had a great round and I’ll definately be back.

I purchased the game as a gift for my husband. We were visiting the area on our own so he did not have a partner to play golf with. usually in NSW they dont let people play alone they partner them up. Unfortunately this was not the case at Twin Waters and as he was on his own he went on the 1st T, and waited he then asked could he go to the 10th T and from there proceed to play. After playing that 9 holes he returned to 1st T again as there were a couple of groups ahead of him he decided not to continue on his own. So he was disappointed and I as well as this was part of a christmas gift.

My wife and I both enjoyed the course which was in excellent condition and well ‘manicured’.If you are on the fairway the ball sits up for you and encourages you to hit it cleanly. The greens were smaller than I imagined they might be with some subtlies.

Played Tuesday 9th Dec. Layout & course excellent. Greens s little slow & got slower in the humidity. No drinks cart appeared in 18 holes! Would definitely recommend & play again anyway.

I played nine holes and found the experience and course to be extremely enjoyable. The condition of the fairways was ideal and the greens were consitent – in excellent order but almost unreadable for me at first! But I got the hang of them after a while – I haven’t played enough Bermuda courses I guess. I really enjoyed the physical beauty of the course, and the golfing challenges were interesting. I am learning that the key to good golf is hitting straight (avoiding trouble) and a good short game – that’s no secret, but Twin Waters gives an excellent demonstration and good scoring is very available applying those principles. However if you’re not playing straight your score can mount rapidly. I hope to return for one or more full rounds as soon as I can.

Fairways were in top condition, we got out early and there weren’t many on so it was very enjoybale and peacful. The condition of the greens was not brilliant as they have just sanded them so the ball bumped around a bit, however the layout and fairways made up for this. I would definitely play again and greens will probably be back on track in about a month.

I played on the weekend and must say that the only downside was we were not told that the greens had all been cored 4 days beforehand. Looking down the lush green fairways to a very yellow and sandy green.

That aside I enjoyed the course and while things may look easy from the tee, it can turn on you quickly. If you leave the fairway you have a bit of a challenge to manage your score – which I like about a course.

In all I thought it was a very good course, the price was right and I’ll be back to try my luck again.

PROS

  • Course layout, condition of fairways
10. andrewshak | Rated | 21 Oct 2008 | Add A Review

Drove up from Brisbane to play the course took just over an hour to reach. The course is quite long and fairly flat and can easily be walked. The fairways were in excellent condition, quite wide and forgiving but still challenging. Tees and Greens were not in such good condition as they had just been aeriated and the majority were covered in sand. At least I had an excuse for the number of 3 putts I made on the greens.

Need to watch out for low flying aircraft landing at Sunshine Coast airport next door.

Probably just about worth the 72 bucks green fee with cart.

Have played here many times since they first opened back in the early 1990s and it’s always enjoyable and a good challenge.

Only downside is the pace of play can be very slow sometimes – have occasionally packed it in after 16 holes when finding 2 or more groups in front of us waiting on the 17th tee.

The clubhouse is looking a bit tired these days – could do with a lick of paint and a bit of a refurb.

PROS

  • Challenging course
  • Usually in very good condition

Cons

  • Pace of play can be slow at times

A very nice course, condition was great! From tee to green the course was immaculate, and a good test of skill. Not too crowded, although I suspect this is because we played on a Monday. The only let down was the hire clubs. I thought given the standing of Twin Waters they would have a decent set, not the old mostly rusty set of Retco clubs they supplied.

PROS

  • Immaculate tees, fairways & greens
  • Challenge of the course

Cons

  • Crappy Hire Clubs

I found Twin waters to be an enjoyable round of golf. The service from the pro shop to the bar was friendly and helpful. The course was in good condition and as always it proved very challenging on the greens. I will be back.

We’ve both been long-time lovers of Twin Waters, going back quite a few years. We play there every time we visit Noosa, although we missed last year because of the scarifying.

Enjoyed our day. Early tee off so no waiting. The course was in the process of maintenance so fairways not their normal great condition! Was great for the three beginners as easy to walk and nice wide fairways. Greens were very fast but not bad. I managed to play well so that was a bonus. Staff were friendly enough to us. Saw the Marshall once but not sure of his purpose as there were lots of players in pairs and they had to wait regularly. We allowed a couple of pairs to play through. The drinks cart came around twice. I would play there again as I do like it. Would rate it 4 star except for the day we played due to maintenance. The fee could have been reduced while the course is under maintenance.

Any reservations I had about the staff at Twin Waters was put to rest the minute we entered the club house on Saturday morning. The young guy in the pro shop was courteous, helpful and seemed more than happy to go out of his way to accomodate our requests. The practise facilities were very good and although very dewy early, (7.15am tee), the green dried out fast and ran true. Through eighteen holes we saw the drinks cart 4 times and the service was exceptional. The course was in immaculate condition and we were through eighteen in just over 3 hrs! not a hold up, not a concern and a great course. Maybe those who complain about the service should try pulling their heads out of their bums, and those who complain about the speed of play should get there a little earlier.

Took my dad there for father’s day as I know that this is a great course. We all played a good game and enjoyed our golf. Drinks cart came around very regularly, this doesn’t happen often on any course. We started early on what seemed to be a perfect day, only to be greated by an arrogant shop staff. We moved on, only to find ourselves behind a hacking group of 5. The marshall soon sorted it out. We then got to the first green. Covered in dew!. If we have to put up with your arrogance at least have something to back it up. We also had to work out the hole placements for ourselves. When I asked for a comment card, I was basically told they didn’t want to know.

This is a fantastic course. Just wait for the dew to clear and try not to speak to the staff. Otherwise, go to pelican.

PROS

  • Great course layout
  • Great fairways
  • Great beverage cart

Cons

  • Wet greens
  • arrogant shop staff
  • Overpriced for service, no GPS

The condition of the course was in excellent condition after recent rain. To be honest the round was a little to slow to be thoroughly enjoyed. Over 4.5 hours for 18 holes is too long. Waiting for anything upto 15 minutes on each tee annoyed the groups in front and behind. Despite this I have played there many times and i will be back. A friday afternoon special via iseekgolf.com would entice myself and friends to play there more often. At present i go to Club Pelican for $49 with a cart on friday at 1pm.

Beautiful!!! Played 36 holes here over 2 days. Awsome golf course. I found this course difficult on both days & played no were near my handicap (12). There are golf courses & then there are courses like this one, greens firm with some bazzar breaks to say the least. The rough was extremly “fluffy’ & was very humbling for me on more than one occassion!! Beautiful fairways, very attractive resort course, kangaroos everywere. Staff were very helpful & courteous. I must say there were a few holes that were a little similar in design, however this did not stop me from making the same mistake time & time again. Would recomend this course to anyone who needs a bit of ego deflation, it certainly worked for me!!! Will be back there again as soon as humanly possible. Lovely course.

Enjoyed the course, good to have some shorter and easier par 4’s than some other resort courses, whilst still being testing. Found the greens to be reasonably slow for a course of this quality, but fairways in good condition.

Flew around the front nine, however came to a grinding halt on the back nine, due to 4 groups teeing off the 10th not long before our back nine. Luckily we skipped a few holes ahead then backtracked to finish our round.

Not sure where the course Marshall was but the 4 groups of hackers in front of us would have taken 3 hours to complete their 9, ridiculous, and put a dampner on our day not doing the course in hole order, just lucky we could skip a few holes ahead. I’d check with pro-shop if booking 18 holes that no-one is teeing off the 10th to hold your up your second 9.

I played this course on holiday from Victoria at the time i was a 27 handicapper struggling to break 100. i found the prices to be very fair (made even more so with a discount thanks to the golf course guide book) for the condition of the course. I found that it was very accommodating as it had wide fairways at about 200-230m on most holes making it enjoyable for the high handicappers but narrowed significantly past that to present a challenge for the low handicappers. fairways are almost perfect thanks to recycled water and the greens played fast but very true making it a great course for golfers of all handicaps

On of my favourite layouts over many years. Every time I play here the course is usually in great condition. On my most recent visit a couple of months back, this was certainly the case.

This course is by no means difficult when compared to some of it’s more illustrious cousins, but it is always a pleasure to play. I have personally never had a run in with any of the staff as others have on here, but I must say they weren’t extremely friendly in any way either. Compared to other courses of the same ilk, Twin Waters is good value for money, coming in at less than $100 a round, which is pretty good these days. If you’re in the area playing this course, my suggestion is to also pop in and play Mt Coolum a little further up the road. This is a little gem.

I didn’t think the course was worth anywhere near the cost charged. Played on 26/1/08 – The staff (especially in the pro shop) were incredibly rude from the moment my group arrived. The Course Marshall failed to keep slow moving groups progressing at a respectable pace. Definitely put a dampener on the day. I doubt I’ll ever play there again.

As for the course itself, one thing I did enjoy was that the course punished poor tee shots. The rough was a consistent 5cm and once in there it was extremely hard to be accurate.

Throughly enjoved playing here! Ist timer off 10, came away with 5 over. Pretty happy about that. The course is in excellent condition. Typical resort course; fairly generous fairways. Still requires good shot selection and straight hitting to score well. Would definitely play again next time I’m down this way.

Played Twin Waters recently and found it to be a reasonably good course. It is challenging, but not severe on bad shots. The course is in exceptional nick and the greens were true. I found the staff though to be exceptionally poor at customer service to the extent that I thought we were getting in their way. I would only play there if there was no other course available on that day in that area, as I don’t want to pay hard earned money to a course that does not appreciate the custom.

PROS

  • Good layout
  • Challenging without being severe

Cons

  • Very Poor customer service

A group of us (h’caps 12 to 25) played as visitors in the Members / Visitors comp over the Mayday weekend. Facilities were very good, the course was in excellent condition. Fairways were open, greens were quick with a fluffy rough around them to make scoring well a challenge. A good course but not quite a great course. Staff were snobby, and not organised for visitors playing in comp. Comps were separate – only 2 pin shots for visitors. The golf shirts on sale were a bit crummy for a resort. I’d pick Noosa Springs any day ahead ot Twin Waters.

I traveled up from Vic for a conference and managed to squeeze in a quick nine holes one afternoon. Hired a set of Callaways and walked the course, all up costing about $70.00. This was my first game on a Queensland resort type course and at the time, I was very impressed with the quality. However since playing at a couple of other top courses (including Coolum) my opinion has dropped back a little bit. Don’t get me wrong it was worth the money, I just agree with a few other reviews that mention the lack of good customer service. The nine I played (not sure which one) was pretty open and in good nick. I probably would not bother again.

Played here last Saturday pulling buggies. It is a nice flat course making it an easier walk than other courses. We started on the 10th with 2 groups right infront of us and one group directly behind us which took a shine off the day making things more rushed.

The course was very nice. It was the 1st time I played on a high quality course so it was nice to hit of short cut-consistant fairways and rough to a managable extent. The greens were thunder quick (even the guy who plays on this a lot says that!) making putting more challenging particually when they drimaticly lost their pace through the afternoon! The bunkers are OK. Good condition with a few pot hole bunkers (never got into them).

The 2nd and 8th hole is my pick for best holes as the wind can pick up on you at any minitue accros the water making a challenge.

Very nice course

PROS

  • Nice layout
  • Consistant fairways with managable rough

Cons

  • Way over booked. 4 groups on one hole (par 5. one on green, one 2/3 down, 1/3 down. we were on tee and another group behind us on green)

Need a break from the grind of daily life…........ Where to go, try Magnolia Lane Apartments overlooking the 9th at Twin Waters.

It was breathtaking!!!!!

My first sight of the course, well, I thought SEQld is in a drought!! The Course was like green carpet. The facilites (range, putting surfaces) were first class.

My interpersonal relations with course staff was professional and courteous, mind you i did spend the weekend playing with a Retired Touring Pro…...........

All that was left was to tee it up and play some golf. Loved it, I’ll be back and I recommend this expertice to all.

Happy Golfing.

Played this course twice in the last week, the first with a four and the second time with 5 of us. We all hired carts and clubs including the Exec clubs at $50 per round. Ignoring drinks, balls etc each four presented $500 to the club for a tee time. But the service in the pro shop on both occasions suggested we were getting i nthe way of their normal job, which I thought was getting players in to the club and selling products and services. The greens staff also semed to jhave a different view of course ettiquette that I would have expected from many public courses. I haven’t had a green keeper drive past a tee with soemone lining up a shot for a long time. To top it off I was annoyed that I didn’t have a pitching wedge in my hire bag. When I came in from the first round It was strongly suggested that I had taken it. I was also blamed for not noticing it was missing and coming straight back to point that out to them. At $50 a round I would have thought they would have been checked before being given to me. When the wedge was found in another bag I didn’t receive an apology or thanks. If we hadn’t been staying in the Twin Waters Resort just along the road I wouldn’t have played a second round there. I wish I hadn’t.

We played Palm Meadows earlier in the week and all of the staff there – office, pro shop, restaurant, starter and greens were fantastic and couldn’t do enough for us. Maybe the Twin Waters people should travel to Palm Meadows and see what golf customer service is really about and how poor a job they are doing.

For some reason I struggle to get into this course. It is fine as far as condition goes, but I find it a bit boring to be honest. The fairways are very wide, the greens relatively slow and some greenside bunkers have been filled in to accomodate the "oldies". 3 and a half stars.

Well this is another 'resort' course. Strangely enough the only course in the area with electric carts versus petrol. If you think playing on a golf course is quiet, play here at the beginning of school holidays. The planes I am sure line up the runway by the direction of the fairway.

Enough said, it is a lovely but expensive place to play. Lots of challenges - bunkers even on the fairway!! How unfair is that. I spend all my time trying to be on the fairway and then they put a b...y bunker in the way!!

Like all the Sunshine coast courses, lots of wildlife.

Took the oportunity to use an iseekgolf voucher at Twin Waters - I will be looking to pay for all my holiday golf that way from now on. Discount with no argument!

TW played true to the card, none of our group blitzing the course and everyone having at least a couple of "come back next week" holes. The greens were very slow (perhaps the rain taking ints toll), the bunkers inconsistent in depth of sand (rain again?) and only the edges of the fairways were wet underfoot. The wind (strong sou'wester) made many holes three to four clubs longer than normal and turned the par 4 16th into a tough par 5 and the par 5 18th into a marathon.

Probalby the pick of the courses played this week for value, and just behind the Hyatt for presentation. Definitely returning to this one!

This course is lot more forgiving than Noosa Springs or Coolum yet still leaves a sense of achivement if you play well. Have a bad day here and it won't beat you up feeling the need for extensive counselling.

Some of the mounding looks like after thoughts but adds variety. There is enough water around to add variety but not intimidation. Greens were very quick but true and bunkers in excellent condition.

The colour course layout on the score card is excellent, it provides basic fairway & bunker layouts and is a good alternative to buying a course guide.

Green fees are reasonable and all combines to a very enjoyable round leaving the nerves and wallet in tact.

Played this course twice in a week whilst holidaying in Noosa. Forgiving if you haven't bought your accuracy with you, especially out of the tee box with well above average fairways and greens. Challenging enough for a handicapper in the teens upward but not the sort of place you'll blast through sleeves of balls (unlike Coolum). Of the four courses we played that week probably the best Value For Money and still left you feeling good about your golf (whether you had a good day or a bad day).

This is a sensational golf course. I love peter thompson's designs and this is one of his best. Really, there is not a bad hole here. The 4th is one of the great short par 5's in the country, the 8th is just superb with a green modeled on the road hole green at st. andrews (albeit approached at a slightly different angle) and needs a faded drive over water and bunkers, where you can choose how much of a tiger line you want to take. Like all of thompsons designs (risk and reward). The 13th and 16th are great par 4's and rate with the best. Truly and a great course altough a lot tamer since they shaved the mounds that line the fairways to make it a little more user friendly. For me tho, I wish they would toughen it up a little. But make no mistake this is a Great Golf Course!

I have had the joy of playing this course twice.

The condition of this course is top quality tee to green.

There is plenty for the low handicap, but there is also a safe way for the high handicap.

This cource is well worth the price and well catered for with drink/food cart.

This is a course that I will return to whenever the opportunity arrives.
