Tin Can Bay was a course we played during our holiday up down the Queensland coast. To be completly honest my expectations were not extremly high, althrough it wasen’t all that terrible. It is a decent little course, which offers some variety in holes. Difficulty could be increased here and there, but apart from that, it was a nice day of golf. The course is abit better than some of the other courses we played (not mentioning any names Calliope….....)

We arrived early Sunday morning for a round and we wer told if we wanted club hire ect (which we did) that the guy opens at 7.

We went back at 7 to a friendly guy who runs the course then we teed off.

Its a very nice course. The par 5 3rd is and up hill par 5 so that hole is a D R A G. The par 3 5th hole is a callenge for if you can't hit the ball well or those once in a blue moon golfers. You have to hit it over 50 meters of water then your ball has to pull up quick on the green.

We found the back 9 a bit of a drag. More par 5's on the back 9 so it was not as fun where on the front 9, the par 3's and 4's kept you going.

We finished at the 18th green whith a smile on our face and it was nice to have a good round at Tin Can Bay.

The local who I played this course with was a bit apologetic as we before and as we started out on this course. There was no need to be - it's a decent course by any standard but especially considering the size of this community.

The locals have done a good job of forming a course on a sandy belt of land a kilometre or so back from the water. The fairways were decent but you do get some sandy lies hidden by the grass when you hit it into the rough. The greens were average but did have consistant grass and were quite readable.

There was a good variety of holes in terms of length and style. The course is generally pretty flat but few holes gently sloping up toward the clubhouse required longer clubs.

The course could probably just use a few more bunkers - seems strange for a course so close to the ocean and built out of sand dunes. I'd recommend wearing long pants even in summer really because the sand flies can get a bit much.

Nice club house for a beer too. If you're not playing for sheep stations then this is a decent course for a hit.
