A well designed and interesting layout. The course winds its way around tree lined fairways with the occasional Kangaroo to boot. Most holes are straight foward, however accuracy of the tee is required as the tree lines are very dense, making an escape to the green very difficult. The course does play short, so be prepared to play lots of wedges into greens. While a good variety of holes is offered, they could certainly be strengthened with some more bunkers or trees. The greens were nice and true but very slow. Fairways were a little patchy but you would be unlucky to get more than one bad lie on a fairway per round. The club is fantastic and SWR is a beautiful part of the world. Well worth a hit if your in that part of the world.

I played here twice on holiday earlier in the year and enjoyed the relaxed, friendly and holiday paced course. Isn't it nice not having to tee-off with a gallery of people backed up waiting their turn. I expected a goat track but was happy to be presented with a well-maintained and fairly challenging course. Don't be fooled by the modest pro shop.

Although mainly flat, a section of the course is built on reclaimed coastal wetland. This has resulted in several watercourses running through the course creating a good number of water hazards that are in play. Unfortunately this also lead to a large number of mosquito's which ate me alive on a number of holes, so make sure you pack the Aeroguard.

I felt the course played shorter than the card, as the greens on a few par 4's seemed easily reachable with an accurate drive. There is either a good reward for showing some courage or a long search for your ball for not getting it right. Most of the par 3's hard bunkers in play and the par 5's were mainly wide and straightforward. Overall it is a good course that will give you a challenge at a relaxed pace.

As a holiday destination, South West Rocks can be easily overlooked, being a 30km diversion off the highway requiring a special trip.

However, if you want a quiet vacation, it's a great place, and the golf course is good enough to keep the serious golfer interested.

Everything about the South West Rocks Country Club is good, without being great. It's fairly flat, with mostly tree-lined fairways and mid-sized greens.

The card doesn't look very imposing, but the distances are deceiving. The fairways are soft and sand-based, so expect not much roll on your drives.

There is some water near a few greens to gobble up poorly struck shots. There is one great 380m par 4 (6th) and two interesting 260m tempting par 4's that are easy a lay-ups but penalise the gamble that fails.

As an indicator of merit, it's almost as good as Coffs Harbour and better than Kempsey or Sawtell.

The clubhouse is also the main club for the town, and serves a very good all-you-can-eat buffet.
