Despite the township of Lorne now somewhat of a top-end seaside getaway to rival the great eastern towns of Portsea & Sorrento, the golf course is far removed from such lofty heights. Lorne Golf Club is without doubt a little country track, and as with the best country tracks it has the personality and the quirks to make it both memorable and enjoyable. The course is set high in the hills above the township and greets the golfer with stunning views out across Bass Straight. It is by no means long but seeing as though all holes are cut into severe slopes, apart from teeing off you will no receive flat lies. The greens are good but tricky and to shoot well around here you must have a keen eye for the subtle breaks. A few holes are cut nicely into deep vegetation and there is a relaxing air about the place. There are a few weak holes squashed into the small tract of land and although the views will hold your breath and the slopes keep you on your toes, once around the nine holes of the course is probably enough. As with most quirky country courses there is enough to keep you from shooting the lights out but also enough room to roll in a few birdies. Overall a nice little departure from the 'big time' golf where the little parts of your game are tested.
